Encouragement for your walk with God

“A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel.” -Numbers 24:17

Star

Star Of David is a digitally remastered painting I did one Sunday after having an impression for several weeks to paint a star.  I’d been wanting to paint a star since Christmas and after my pastor shared about Israel and the importance of God’s holy nation at the beginning of 2017, I knew what kind of star I was to paint:  a star of David.

The technique I used was one I saw some of my friends do where you take electrical tape and make a pattern before applying acrylic paint on the canvas.  I first taped a star of David very carefully, making sure the lines were straight and true to shape.  Then, when our worship team started playing, I painted a bright night scene with stars and galaxies.  It was a lot of fun and at the end I removed the tape to reveal a star of David.  Later I remastered the painting in PhotoShop, creating another painting with a starry night, called Stars of David.

Prophecy

Numbers 24:17 says, “A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel.”  This prophecy, spoken by Balaam, a pagan prophet of all things, was prophesying about King David who would rise up and deliver Israel from its enemies.  Balaam was overpowered by the Spirit of God and spoke of how beautiful, abundant and strong Israel was; how a king would rise to save them.  Although this prophecy was initially about David, ultimately it was about the coming Messiah, Jesus, who was to come and deliver Israel from all her enemies-who was to come and bring salvation to the whole world.

The star in Star Of David is representative of Israel, God’s chosen people, but I feel it is also a symbol of the bright Morning Star, who brings light to the whole world.  The other stars in the painting are all those who would follow after Jesus, both Jews and Gentiles.

Jesus is the bright Morning Star and it is through Him we can “shine like stars in the universe” (Philippians 2:15)!

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches.  I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star” (Revelation 22:16).

“And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts” (2 Peter 1:19).
