Encouragement for your walk with God

“…Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”  -1 Peter 1:19

Blood

The Lamb Of God is Jesus, the prophesied Messiah, who was slain for all mankind.  The prophecies of old declared it hundreds of years before it came true:  “…he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities…He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter…He poured out his life unto death” and “bore the sin of many” (Isaiah 53).  It’s incredible to realize a perfect lamb died in our place.  And he wasn’t forced to, but made the choice in obedience to his Father to do the only thing that could save humanity.  There was only one thing that could pay the price of our sin.  Only one thing could purchase you and me.  His blood.  Jesus was the sacrificial lamb and with his blood, Jesus purchased us for God.  Hallelujah!

“With your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation” (Revelation 5:9).

Recognize

Many of the ones closest to Jesus recognized him for who he was and for why he came into this world.  “John (the Baptist) saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world’ (John 1:29)!” In Revelation 5:9, John the disciple testified of what the saints in heaven said about Jesus: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.”  Peter saw him as the “Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect” (1 Peter 1:19).

So, how do you see Jesus?  Do you recognize him as the Lamb of God?

Alive

“For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.  He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit” (2 Peter 3:18).

The good news is that Jesus died and rose again.  He wasn’t just the sacrificial lamb, but also the mighty Lion of the Tribe of Judah!  The grave could not hold him down; he rose on the third day and that is our declaration as believers.  We are purchased by the blood through his death and raised to new life through his resurrection.  Praise God we are alive in Christ!
