Centered in Jesus

As Christians, our lives are to be centered in Jesus.  He’s our focus and vision for living.  The cross may be a symbol of death, but it’s also a reminder of life, because Christ overcame death and left an empty cross behind.  Because of his resurrected body, we overcome sin, death and anything else that sets itself up against God.  Jesus is the author and perfecter of our faith!

Look Straight Ahead

“Your eye is the lamp of your body.  When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light.  But when they are bad, your body also is full of darkness” (Luke 11:34).  If we look at pure and holy things, our eyes, or lamp, will be full of light and that light will shine on the rest of our body- including our mind, our heart and our soul.  However, if we look at evil and dark things – not looking to Jesus – then our lives will be full of darkness and things of this world.  “For everything in the world – the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does – come not from the Father but from the world” (1 John 2:16). 

I don’t want to lust after this world but rather love Jesus.  I want to fix my eyes on Him!   

The cross is full of light and life because Jesus was on it.  He destroyed darkness through His death and resurrection.  How glorious our Lord and Savior is and how incredible that He made a way to the Father through His obedience on the cross!   

Instead of being distracted and losing focus, because of the darkness and lust of the world, let us fix our gaze on the cross.  Let’s look to Jesus, the light of the world!   

“Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you” (Proverbs 4:25).

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2).
