Encouragement for your walk with God

“‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.”  -Zechariah 4:6

His Presence and Power

As I drove to work this week on the Great Smoky Mountains Expressway, I saw the beautiful Smoky Mountains with fog rising.  I was in awe of God’s creation and it reminded me of the Holy Spirit and God’s presence.  Just like the fog and smoke rising from the mountain peaks, the Holy Spirit rises in our hearts and in this world.  The Holy Spirit is all around us, like the Smoky Mountains, and He’s comforting us.  It’s His presence that we should long for the most.

The Holy Spirit is with us and wants to lead us into all truth.  “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.  He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he heard, and he will tell you what is yet to come” (John 16:13).  The Holy Spirit is one of the persons in the Trinity, including God the Father and God the Son.  God the Holy Spirit gives power and if we allow Him, He will give us the strength and power to be effective witnesses.  Not only does He help us help others through the gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12), He also teaches us and reminds us of what Jesus said (John 14:26).

We Need the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is our Counselor and the Spirit of Truth.  Without Him, we’re not saved and we can’t live the Christian life.  We need Father God, Jesus AND the Holy Spirit.

By My Spirit is a painting about trusting in God’s power.  We’re imperfect and unable to live this life without the help of God.  We try many times to do something in our own strength, but it’s ultimately God’s strength, and His Spirit that will help us.

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness’…For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).
