“Be still, and know that I am God…” -Psalm 46:10

Be Still

It’s not always easy to be still, especially when our world is chaotic and in turmoil.   Life can be extremely stressful; perhaps we are going through a season that we wish would soon pass.  Being in that moment can be painful and heartbreaking.

Be Still And Know started with an ocean full of large waves.  In the center is Psalm 46:10:  “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”  In the beginning of the chapter, it says, “Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging…Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall…the Lord Almighty is with us; He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth…The Lord Almighty is with us” (Psalm 46:2-3; 6-7; 9 & 11).

Like the ocean waves around the verse, we sometimes feel surrounded and afraid.  The truth is, we all go through times of uncertainty and trouble.  There may even be a battle we are experiencing right now.  So, what do we do?  Is there help for us?

Our Help

The answer is yes!  God is our help!  Above all, no matter how bad the storm gets, we can trust in God to help us.  He is mighty to save and will fight our battles.  We don’t have to fear, even if our world is literally shaking apart.  For God is with us and he will hold us together.  He will bring us peace and make our wars cease.  All we need to do is be still and know that he is God!

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14).

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).
