Encouragement for your walk with God
“And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness; it will be for those who walk on that Way…” – Isaiah 35:8
Holy
What does it mean to be holy? According to Webster’s dictionary, the word holy means, “exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness” (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/holy). Another way to define holy is to be set apart. The only one I can think of that is perfect in goodness and righteousness, set apart, exalted and worthy of complete devotion is Jesus.
In the New Testament, many claimed Jesus was holy and in fact called him the Holy One of God. “Simon Peter answered him (Jesus), “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God” (John 6:68-69).
The angel Gabriel said unto Mary…”The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:35).
Even demons declared Jesus holy: “In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an evil spirit. He cried at the top of his voice, Ha! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are- the Holy One of God” (Luke 4:33-34)!
The Old Testament also has scriptures that attribute holiness unto the LORD.
King David in Psalm 99:9 said, “Exalt the LORD our God and worship at his holy mountain, for the LORD our God is holy.”
The prophet Isaiah saw a vision of seraphs (heavenly beings) flying and worshiping in heaven: “And they were calling to one another: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory'” (Isaiah 6:3).
It’s very clear who is holy. The LORD Jesus our God is holy! He is worthy of our worship and worthy of our praise!
The Way Of Holiness
The Way Of Holiness was first inspired from a picture the Lord gave me of a child walking with Jesus hand in hand on a pathway. I then saw a large rock (like when Moses was in the desert wilderness with the Israelites) gushing forth water and becoming a waterfall. Once I painted the rock with water, I proceeded to make a river flow with streams and grass, vegetation, trees and fruit. I made the water become small pools and added to the lush garden in the desert, especially after reading Isaiah 35.
“The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy…water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert. The burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground bubbling springs… (Isaiah 35:1-2;6-7).
Then I read verse 8 and that’s when God brought my painting full circle. “And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not journey on it; it will be for those who walk in that Way…”
Jesus is calling us to receive the kingdom of God like a little child (Luke 18:17) and to walk with him hand in hand on the Way of Holiness. It’s a highway for the pure (clean) in heart. The ones who walk on that Way, walk with the one who is called the Way (John 14:6). It’s the road that ultimately leads home to the Father.
We can walk with Jesus, who is the Holy One, because he has made us holy and righteous through his blood. We are redeemed and set free! As we walk on the Way of Holiness, Jesus is turning our desert (life) into a beautiful well-watered garden! Hallelujah!
Let us continue to “walk in the light, as he is in the light” because “the blood of Jesus…purifies us from all sin” (1 John 1:7) and makes us holy as he is holy.
“I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
-Luke 18:17
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
-John 14:6
