Encouragement for your walk with God
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles…”
-2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Under His Wings
Hens are very protective of their chicks. In fact, they will literally cover their babies with their entire body, hiding them very close, underneath their wings and feathers. The God Of All Comfort is a picture of how God comforts us and protects us under his wings.
“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge…” (Psalm 91:4).
Many times we need a refuge from the troubles of life. We may feel surrounded and afraid. Just like scared chicks that run to their mother for comfort and protection, we too can run to God. The Father of compassion is waiting with open wings and open arms. “…how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings…” (Matthew 23:37).
God longs to not only gather us, but to give us peace.
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27).
The Comforter
Incredibly, Jesus did not leave us alone when he ascended to heaven. He promised the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, would come from the Father to be with us and in us. The Holy Spirit is also called the Counselor, because he teaches and reminds us of what Jesus said and did.
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (John 14:26).
We are not alone, just like the chicks gathered safely under their mother. We are comforted and we are at peace, because God protects us and fills us with his Spirit each day. When we go through troubles, we can rely on the Holy Spirit and trust in our Heavenly Father.
“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him and show him my salvation.”
-Psalm 91:14-16
