Encouragement for your walk with God
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.“ -Psalm 51:10
Whiter Than Snow
Usually, we think of snow as being white. However, snow is actually not white. It’s clear. Each translucent snowflake is made of ice crystals that reflect all colors of light. Interestingly, when we see snow, our eyes see all the reflected colors together as the color white.
Speaking of snow, King David wrote about being whiter than snow in his famous Psalm 51 passage (after committing some serious sins). “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful form the time my mother conceived me. Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow” (Psalm 51:1-7).
First, King David asked for mercy, praying that God would wash him clean of his sin. He then admitted he was sinful and needed wisdom from the Lord. Incredibly, in faith, David said that after being cleansed and washed, God would make him whiter than snow. Being clean is one thing, but whiter than snow, is that even possible?
Through the precious blood of Jesus it is!
“and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness…Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood…” (Revelation 1:5).
“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace” (Ephesians 1:7).
Forgiven
So how do we receive this forgiveness (washing)? How do we become whiter than snow?
It’s by confessing our sin and totally surrendering to Jesus-the only one who can truly wash us clean.
“If we confess our sin, he (Jesus) is faithful and just, to forgive us our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
To be whiter than snow means we are so clean that there’s no blemish or defect at all. We are clean in our hearts and clean in His eyes. Only Jesus could forgive us like that and make us whole, free from sin and shame, free from guilt and blame. Jesus makes us whiter than the purest of snow!
Like King David, let’s confess our sin and surrender our lives completely to the Lord; let’s receive the forgiveness of Jesus, who makes us Clean And Pure!
