“So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them.”  -Exodus 2:25

Concern

God saw the Israelites who were slaves in Egypt and was “concerned about them”.  That’s a pretty remarkable statement.  God was concerned about His people and heard their cries of desperation.  He remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  It was a promise that the Israelites, God’s chosen people, would be more numerous than the stars in heaven; not destroyed by a ruthless Pharaoh of Egypt.  They would be a people who would live in a land flowing with milk and honey.  More importantly, a people belonging to God.

The New American Standard Bible says it well: “God took notice of them.”  God of heaven saw and noticed the Jewish nation.  His heart was moved and He acted because of His love and concern for them.  God said to the Israelites, “I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.  I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgement” (Exodus 6:6).

And that’s exactly what God did!  He delivered the Israelites through His prophet Moses by miraculous signs and wonders that the world had never seen before.  The Pharaoh died and the Israelites survived.  They even plundered the Egyptians before leaving Egypt (Exodus 21:22). Although they wandered in the desert after their exodus and had many lessons to learn before entering the promised land, God did what He said He would do.  He delivered them, because he was concerned about them and loved them.  Does that sound familar?

For God So Loved

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).  God saw the world, including you and me.  And He took notice and understood we needed a savior to rescue us from our sin.  We needed a way to be reconciled.  Just like Moses, Jesus was sent by God to save His people.  And not just the Jewish nation, but every nation, every tribe and every tongue.

So, how should we respond?  Simply put:  believe.  Let’s believe and be saved.  His promise is still available today.  God wants to deliver us from our enemies; He wants to rescue us from sin.  Jesus is both Savior (crown of thorns) and King (crown of gold).  He is God’s gift to us.  Jesus came as a gift to give us the gift of eternal life.  Jesus came to save the world!
