Encouragement for your walk with God
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock…” -Revelations 3:10
Being Real
There’s no false nature in something that’s genuine. Genuine is defined as “authentic”, “real”, “sincere”, and “honest” (according to online dictionaries). In other words, genuine means true. It isn’t fake or hypocritical. Someone who is genuine is true to who they say they are.
So, when it comes to faith, are we genuine? Are we true to who we believe in? As followers of Jesus, we are called to love him and to walk by faith in obedience to his Word. That’s not always easy, but Jesus never said it would be. In fact, he said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Because Jesus has already walked in our shoes, then we can confidently follow in his footsteps. As we walk by faith we don’t have to worry, because Jesus promises to walk with us. “And surely I am with you always, to the very ends of the age” (Matthew 28:20).
Let The Light In
As the song, “Let the Light In”, mentions, the singer has “one foot out, one foot in.” There’s a struggle between living in the dark and living in the light. However, the singer doesn’t want to be hypocritical. He wants to be genuine because he says, “I think it’s time to let the light in.”
Fully letting the light into the door of our hearts is the ultimate calling. Jesus wants to come in and he actually stands at the door and knocks. If the door is only slightly open and we aren’t fully committed, then why have the door open at all? Jesus is calling us to open wide the door to our heart and let his light come in. He wants to illuminate our hearts fully. It’s the difference between genuine and fake.
Genuineness embraces vulnerability and faith. Fakeness embraces comfort and fear. Honestly, it’s hard to be vulnerable and truly trust God with all our hearts. But faith is what pleases God. Faith is genuine. Faith is true.
Dear Jesus, I pray that you give us faith and help us overcome our fear. Please give us genuine (true) faith to believe in you and to follow you each day with our hearts wide open. Let your light in!
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him” (Hebrews 11:6).
“For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7).
“…walk in the light, as he is in the light…” (1 John 1:7)
