“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth…I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.” –Revelation 21:1-2
The Holy City
Are you excited about heaven?
Sometimes we get so consumed in living life on earth that we forget about life in heaven. And according to the Bible, we should be looking forward to our new heavenly home, because it’s going to be beyond what we could ever imagine or dream!
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband…It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal…its..wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone (jasper, sapphire, chalcedony, emerald, sardonyx, carnelian, chrysolite, beryl, topaz, chrysoprase, jacinth, and amethyst). The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of pure gold, like transparent glass” (Revelation 21:1-2; 11; 15-21).
Our new home will literally be heaven on earth, as the new Jerusalem comes down out of heaven from God! Not only will it be made with the purest of gold and precious stones, the Holy City will have no temple, because…“the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple” (Revelation 21:22). The Apostle John goes on to say more:
“The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life” (Revelation 21:23-27).
In the Holy City the glory of God and the Lamb will be our light and there will be no more night. Perhaps we won’t even sleep because we will be at rest and peace with our Heavenly Father. We will live in the purest of cities with no more sin and shame, but rather honor, splendor and glory.
My Father’s House
Heaven will also be the ultimate paradise with no more suffering, no more pain, no more sorrow and no more death. It will be a place of pure peace, jubilant joy and complete comfort.
“Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat upon them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes…’There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away'” (Revelation 7:16-17; 21:5).
We can be excited about heaven to come, because Jesus is preparing a place for us. And one day he will come back to take us to be with him! Being with Jesus and in his presence will be the most amazing thing we could ever desire or hope for. God’s glorious glory will surround us and we will see him face to face!
“They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.”
-Revelation 22:4
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
-John 14:1-3
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’ He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!'”
-Revelation 21:1-5
