Encouragement for your walk with God
“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.” -Psalm 91:14-16
Boundary of Protection
We tend to look at the wave(s), much like Peter, when a storm comes our way. Instead of trusting in the Lord, we become distracted by our circumstances. It can be overwhelming when our enemies are crushing in on us like a huge wave. We feel the pressure of spiritual warfare and the stronghold won’t let us go. However, God doesn’t want us to look to our enemies. He doesn’t want us to listen to them. Rather, God wants us to look unto him and to hear his voice: “Look unto me. I am your refuge. I am here protecting you. I am mighty to save you!”
God’s hand of protection, as in My Protector And My Deliverer, is the same mighty hand that can protect us and shield us from the wave(s) of life. Instead of looking at our circumstances, let’s recognize his hand covering us and protecting us. This is God’s miraculous boundary of protection!
My Deliverer
Psalm 91 has beautiful promises that King David heard from the Lord, at a time in his life when he needed protection and deliverance from his enemies, who were trying to kill him.
“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation” (verses 14-16).
The Lord not only promised to protect David from his enemies, but also to rescue and deliver him! Why did God promise to do this? The answer lies in verse 14: “Because he loves me” and “for he acknowledges my name.” King David loved the Lord so much and acknowledged the Lord first, rather than his enemies, rather than the wave(s)! And because David did those things, the Lord ultimately delivered him from all of his enemies!
“David sang to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said ‘The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior…I call to the the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies. The waves of death swirled about me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me…He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me…'” (2 Samuel 22:1-5; 17-18).
As followers of Jesus, we can do the same. We can love and acknowledge the Lord! And when we do, not only will God protect us, but God will also deliver us, from all of our enemies!
