Encouragement for your walk with God
“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “‘Yes’ in Christ.” -2 Corinthians 1:20
Promises
Promises are meant to be kept, but far too often they are broken. When a promise is broken it hurts. When a promise is fulfilled it’s one of the best feelings. We’ve been on both sides of promises. We’ve kept promises, but also not lived up to our word. God never breaks His promises; He always keeps His word. If God says He will do something, then He’ll do it. “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “‘Yes’ in Christ.” Our only part is to believe and receive those promises. “And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God” (2 Corinthians 1:20).
Many times we have to wait for a promise to be fulfilled. Think about David. He was running from King Saul who was trying to kill him. David had to trust the Lord and believe that he would be delivered from Saul and all his enemies. “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance” (Psalm 32:7). Amazingly David did trust God and had patience to wait for his deliverance. “…the king (David) was settled in his palace and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around him” (2 Samuel 7:1).
David knew in his heart a promise from God. That promise was that he would see deliverance some day. There must have been much rejoicing when that day came!
The New Has Come
When I painted New Creation I first had a picture of a butterfly with many different colors on it, like a rainbow. The rainbow colors represent the promises God has given us. The Bible is full of promises that are meant for us. Each promise is real and true. God will fulfill each and every one because He says they are “Yes in Christ.” Do we believe that? Do we want that?
We can be confident in our God to keep His promises and to help us trust (wait) in Him to receive them. 2 Corinthians 5:17 talks about one of these great promises. It says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”
Whenever I think of a new creation I think of a butterfly. Butterflies go through a transformation from a caterpillar (old life) to a butterfly (new life). How incredible that when we are in Christ, knowing Him as our Lord and Savior, we are new creations in Him! The old life of sin is gone, because He has given us a new life and a new pure desire to follow Him. Let’s live as new creations in Christ, believing and receiving all of His incredible promises!
