Encouragement for your walk with God
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…” -Hebrews 12:1-2
Faith
Unshakeable Faith began with a painted image of a flame and the word faith inside of it. After painting the fire, I used a couple of sharpie markers to write some verses from Hebrews 12 in the background. Hebrews 12:1-2 talks about running the race and fixing our eyes on Jesus:
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
A neat thing happened when I was writing the verse that says, “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.” The blue written word our ended beside the white painted word Faith (if you look back at the painting, you can see it). I didn’t have to write faith, because it was already painted in the flame from the beginning!
Unshakeable
At the end of Hebrews Chapter 12, verses 26-27, the heavens and the earth are being shaken. Speaking of being shaken, today, you can look around and see this happening: nations fighting against nations, famine, disease, heartache, rebellion against parents, natural disasters, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and hurricanes. We are definitely living in the end times. However, even though the world is shaking around us, our faith remains unshakeable. And the reason we are unshakeable is because Jesus is unshakeable! Hallelujah!
“Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens. The words ‘once more’ indicate the removing of what can be shaken- that is, created things-so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our ‘God is a consuming fire'” (Hebrews 12:26-29).
Tested in the Fire
For many of us, at different times in our lives, our faith has been tested. Through trials and tribulations we have felt the heat. But instead of our faith being destroyed, it has actually been purified. We have been refined and strengthened by the fire of God, in order that our faith may be proved genuine, bringing glory and honor to Jesus.
“…though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith-of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire-may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed” (1 Peter 1:6-7).
After I completed Unshakeable Faith, I read the last verse from Hebrews 12, verse 29, which confirmed the image of a flame even more:
“for our God is a consuming fire.”
To Please God
According to 1 Corinthians 13:13, faith is one of the three things that will remain when the world is gone. “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love…” (1 Corinthians 13:13). Faith is vital in our relationship with God, because “without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6). Personally, I want to please God. I want to have faith and believe Him at His word no matter what happens in my life.
I pray that God will give us all the faith to believe and not doubt. I pray we can throw off our sin and run hard after Jesus, the author and perfecter of our Unshakeable Faith!
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you…When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…” -Isaiah 43:2-3
“Make every effort to…be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.” -Hebrews 12:14
