Walk On Water
“Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus” (Matthew 14:29).
Walking on water is an impossible feat, but through faith in God, anything is possible. Peter understood this, especially when Jesus said, “All things are possible with God” (Mark 10:27). Peter trusted in Jesus and took a step of faith. However, he quickly doubted and became afraid.
“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. ‘You of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?’ And when they climbed in to the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshipped him, saying, ‘Truly you are the Son of God'” (Matthew 14:29-32).
Many times we become afraid and have doubts, even when we are walking by faith with God on the water. We may take our eyes off Jesus for just a second and then begin to sink. The waves-caused by the wind-distract us. Sometimes the waves are a test of our faith. It could be a hardship, like sickness or disappointment. Other times it may be our own sin or failures. Whatever it is, the waves are crashing all around us, and we’re scared. However, we must remember, through it all, Jesus is in control. He is with us in the midst of the storm. He is the only one who can reach out, catch us, and keep us from falling.
Above all, no matter what we go though, we are not alone. Jesus is with us and He is the one who will protect and help us in the storm. Let’s believe and take a step of faith, trusting the Lord to see us through. Let’s walk on water!
